when did people forget what

when did people forget what shareware was? now people treat shareware as demoware. they release significantly crippled versions of their software, often so crippled that you can't even tell if it works right. i know this because i was looking for an undelete utility for windows xp, since microsoft has decided that we don't need one any more, and all i could find for the first 2 hours of looking were demos that limited you to 32k files or smaller. is it really that hard to write an undelete utility for xp? it seems to me that there should be a million freeware programs that do this, but all i found was 1 (i will post the link tomorrow when i get to work).
