don't like the person in office, just buy them out
so the california recall is getting out of hand. it seems that 195 or so people have filed to run for governer. they say the ballot may be 12 pages long, and we thought the butterfly ballot in florida was bad. what a farce this is. remember this all started within months of the election, so obviously this isn't about davis's performace in office, since he hadn't had a chance to perform before the recall push was underway. even more evidence that the american political system can be bought.
so now we have a midget, a body builder, a porn star, a liberal conservative (3 of those have speech problems) and 190 or so other people running for a position that may or may not need to get filled, using voting mechanisms that california was getting ready to replace because of the florida fiasco of 2000. all because in california you need a ridiculously small percentage of people to start a recall. i'm pretty sure that they don't have to have been the people who voted in the first election, and with our dismal turnout at elections that means that a bunch of people who didn't vote when they had the chance are now hijacking the political system because some rich fucker paid lots of people to go door to door and get signatures. anyone else think this smacks of heather's bigfun petition/suicide note?
on a brighter note, i went to see the aquabats a while ago, and they were a riot. they are a superhero band, and they put on a great show of punk rock interspersed with witty commercials, and water breaks. then they stop the concert towards the end and have a seahorse race where they take 2 little kids from the audience, place them on inflatable rafts and have the crowd surf them to the back of the hall and then back to the stage. the atmosphere was great, and it was amazing to see lots of aging punkers who had brought out their children to see the show. a family punk concert, who'da thunk it?
