something i want

i'm sure i'm the only one who wants this, but i want to be able to right click on the background of a web page and have a list of 10 or 20 sites i go to really often available to open in the current window. i know that i could always use the bookmarks, but i store lots of things in my bookmarks that i don't go to regularly, where as i go to these 20 or so sites everyday, and i'm just a little too lazy to move my mouse pointer all the way over to the bookmarks file menu. so if you're reading my blog, and i know every mozilla dev wouldn't miss reading it, get on the stick and make that a feature.

i also want inline autocomplete available in firebird. why did you ever take it out?

i've gotten the bulk of my cd collection ogged, but for some reason kplaylist doesn't let me stream ogg files outside my network, and has quit letting anyone download files, and quit letting me update the database. maybe 5500 songs is too much for kplaylist to handle, or maybe it's a samba problem. i really don't know, but i don't care enough about it to try to fix it. it's more important to me that i can have 5500 songs on endless random loop at home. especially now that my upstairs neighbor has cancelled his cable, which i was stealling, so i have no tv right now. if anyone would like to digitize the daily show and send it to me let me know.

mike dagen called me a couple of weeks ago and asked if i would like to continue the tradition of sending him my stereo pair w/ the stereo bar so that he can record the winter carnival. i of course procrastinated until wednesday evening(the carnival is on saturday) and as a result had to next day the mics at a cost of ~$50. sometimes i make myself feel like an ass, and sometimes i make myself feel like a complete fucking dumbass. anyhow, i hope mike received the mics this morning, and is able to record the show, cuz i'm looking forward to hearing it.

so nyf was good, there are photos up on the lvultimate site. we did ok, our new offense worked when we weren't busy dropping easy passes, and throwing the disc into the dirt. i guess it's time to work on those skills. it's also really time to lose some weight, as my knees can't take it. you would think that playing ultimate 3 days a week would help, but i think i'm just eating twice as much to compensate.

if anyone has or knows someone who has some tech turntables that they want to get rid of, let me know. i have things on vinyl that i need to listen to, and i'm not liking the idea of buying a turntable that isn't at least as good as a technics 1200. that's kind of been my mo recently, i guess i've decided that if i can't buy relatively top end, i'm just going to do without.

i've been playing rocks-n-diamonds recently, and it's a nice flashback to weekends spent playing balderdash on my c-64. it's a great rewrite of the game, and it even includes all the old levels, although some of them aren't finishable(b-II level 7), pluse a ton of user created levels, and a level editor on top of all of that. it's available for linux, win32, and os x(makes sense since it's bsd).

speaking of os x, i actually got to do some mac work recently, as one of our clients has an i-mac that they needed to be able to print to the printers on the win2000 server. not too tough, but i was the only one at our office willing to work on a mac. made me feel special, and my linux experiences paid off as i knew what they needed, and only needed to translate it into bsd/macese. cups and gimp-print, and creating an account for the mac user in the domain, and we were off and running. only problem was i mistakenly printed a 15 page document to their inkjet as a test. oh well, i just cancelled it once i got to it(after 5 pages). i like that i-mac. it's the 17" lcd version. i only wish it had been the new 20" version. now if only someone would buy me one(hint, hint) ok, that "hint, hint" was to anyone, since i don't know anyone who would be buying me an i-mac, but if there happens to be a kind, rich philanthropist out there who really wants to give things to a guy named dan out in the desert, i would be more than willing to accept it.

wow i guess i have a binge posting problem. i feel like an addict who has fallen off the wagon and can't get enough, but i better get this posted before something dreadful happens, like my computer crashing, and i lose it all.

I really want Mozilla to reference bookmarks as a file and allow you to point to a URL for it. Then they can make a bookmark manager that modifies that file remotely. It doesn't seem like a difficult thing to do. I think its really stupid to email myself links from work so I can add them to my bookmarks at home.

I went to the Mozilla forums and found someone suggesting exactly this the other day. I think I might want to start a campaign. Who's with me.

This and a Linux driver for my USBPre and I'm a happy OS camper

im sure most people do this but just in case:

in thunderbird:

i have bookmarks foldered and have one labeled 'daily'. i hit 'control b' and my books pop up in the side bar, then- i right click on the 'dailys' folder and select 'open in tabs' and all 50 odd links pop open at once. it works good for news on certain subjects and checking the daily bloggers and forums. not quite the whole solution but at least you don't have to go all the way up to bookmarks.

one other tidbit: newsmonster. it also open in the all powerful sidebar. its a slick aggregator that will need a point release or two but its getting there.

Thanks Todd. I've seen those, but they just look like a pain in the ass. I want integration!!! This is uncharacteristic of me. I usually dont like too much feature integration.

Hey why dont we have a community forum?? Maybe the "Friends of Ralph's Society"
